Our Story

Our Approach

Our Approach

WVM, based in Carbondale, Colorado, specializes in forestry, wildfire  mitigation, and land improvement services. Founded by Mike Uncapher in  2006, following over a decade-long career with the USFS in wildland  firefighting, fuels management, and crew supervision, WVM brings a  wealth of expertise to its projects. Before joining the USFS, Mike honed  his skills as a landscape architect. Leading a team of experienced  operators, WVM undertakes projects for various government agencies at  federal, state, county, and local levels, as well as for HOAs and  private properties. Mike's dedication lies in collaborating closely with  fire departments, land managers, HOA boards, and private individuals on  wildfire mitigation and forest health initiatives. With Mike overseeing  all work directly, from initial consultations to the final walkthrough,  clients can expect personalized attention and meticulous project  management.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Our main objective is fuel reduction while enhancing forest health, which we achieve through a range of mechanical treatments tailored to meet the needs of the property owners. This includes activities such as creating and expanding defensible space, establishing fuel breaks, addressing ladder fuels, and developing maintenance plans.

Given our diverse geographical location, we have experience working with a broad range of vegetation and terrains. Our primary focus is on woody plants, such as Pinion, Junipers, Oak Brush, Service Berry, Aspen, Douglas Fir, and Sage. Additionally, we have expertise in riparian vegetation management. We also address issues related to insect infestation and drought-induced decline and evasive species.

Certainly, a significant portion of WVM's treatments are conducted  within HOAs, focusing on establishing safe zones, facilitating egress,  enhancing forest health, and creating defensible space within these  communities.
